Mrs. Matteson Second grade class

by Vicki Matteson

August 24, 2007

Dear Parents,

I would like to welcome you and your children to second grade.  This will be a year of progressing in all the subjects they were introduced to in kindergarten and first grade.  We continue and extend the subjects they have already learned.

Each student will be expected to read at least 20 minutes each night.  I would prefer the student reads the entire book so they are ready to AR test the next morning.  Please use this reading time for cuddling with your child.  You may read to your child but the student needs the practice of reading the book and knowing the words for taking the test.  I will be sending home a compiled list of the test each child takes and the score they made on Monday.  The average will be one grade for reading.

Math will be much like last year.  We will go more in-depth on each skill.  Please work on addition and subtraction facts since we will be timing them.  They will have homework in this also.  The two sheets should not take more than ten minutes each.

Sometimes I will ask the students to bring something for science such as leaves or maybe a picture.  There will be times that I send a study sheet home before a test.  This science is a bit harder than in years past.  Please help your child be successful.

We have lots of new computer equipment and I am trying to use it in the classroom. Please be patient with me. I'm not from the computer age.

Thank You,

Mrs. Vicki Matteson
