Welcome to our Second Grade classroom! This year will be filled with many learning opportunities that will consist of fun and exciting activities. In second grade, we will be using curriculum such as Saxon Math, Saxon Science, and Sharon Wells Math. The curriculum will also consist of Accelerated Reading during our daily reading time. We will also be using learning centers as well in class.
During the month of September many events will be taking place such as the Grandparents' Tea and the Cookie Dough Fundraiser. In the classroom, we will be learning about what scientists do, as well as solids, liquids, and gases. In Social Studies, the students will be learning about communities.
In second grade, homework will be given daily. The homework will consist of spelling and math. On Thursdays, the only homework to be given will be spelling. It is very important that homework is completed daily and returned the following morning. Homework is an excellent way to reinforce the skills from the school day. Another important part of homework is to have your child read daily for 20 minutes.
Attendance is also an important part our classroom. This year we will be using a program that will reward students for their attendance. Every week that the child has perfect attendance they will be given a card and after nine weeks of perfect attendance their cards will create an animal puzzle. I am excited about this new program and feel that it will reward the students for their attendance.
I am looking forward to a great year and I am very excited to be a part of your child's learning experience in second grade.

Rules for Classroom:
1. Listen while others are talking.
2. Follow directions.
3. Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself.
4. Work quietly and do not disturb others.
5. Be respectful.
6. Work and play in a safe manner.
Consequences for Not following directions:
Verbal warnings will be issued.
1st time - Yellow (warning)
2nd time - Orange (no sticker on chart)
3rd time - Red (no sticker, no stamp in folder, note home)
4th time - Black (Principal's Office)
