With 52 percent of the Childress High School student population classified as economically disadvantaged and the nearest community college located 65 miles from Childress, it is crucial to establish local training in key job skills to reduce poverty and unemployment.
Coinciding with National Corporate Philanthropy Day, the State FarmĀ® Youth Advisory Board will be awarding Childress High School a $30,067 grant to promote and implement "UPSTREAM," a service learning program to provide a quality education to non-college bound students, so they can acquire the job skills to excel as highly qualified human resources in the community, enhance employability, enable entrepreneurship, stimulate broad-based economic development, and accelerate social transformation.
