7th Grade Technology Applications
December 18, 2006
I am a 1990 graduate of Canadian High School. I graduated from Baylor University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Education. My first teaching job after college was in Wichita Falls at Rider High School. I taught freshman typing and a senior word processing computer class. The students worked on IBM computers, using WordPerfect and Lotus spreadsheet software. It was quite an experience coming from a small 2A school in the panhandle to teaching at a large 5A high school. I had many teachers telling me to get back to class when they would see me in the halls. I guess I looked a lot like the students. During that year I got engaged and then married in the summer of 1995. I started teaching at Childress Junior High in 1995. I taught 6th grade Keyboarding and 7th grade Computer Literacy. I have taught here for 12 years and I now teach 7th Grade Technology Applications. I am also CoAnnual Staff sponsor.
I am married to Kirk Stephens, he is a high school Biology teacher and coach. He has been teaching at CISD for 15 years. We have 4 children. Garrett is 9 years old and in the 3nd grade, Grayson is 6 years old and in the 1st grade, Lily is 4 years old and Sophie is 5 months old. We love Childress and have had a wonderful teaching experience in the time we have been here.
I have seen many changes in technology since I have been in Childress. The most exciting change is taking place this year, it is the 1 to 1 laptop initiative. We are on the cutting edge of education technology. It is going to be a very challenging and interesting year. I am so excited to see what our students can do with these new laptops. What a great time to be a student at CJHS!
My conference time is 9:30 to 10:20. Please feel free to contact me at school or you can e-mail me anytime at wstephens@childressisd.net
