Greetings from the Counselor's Corner!
Every Friday I conduct "Mrs. Parker's Social Skills 101" class for sixth graders. These students are grouped according to gender, so this allows me to address situations relevant to either boys or girls. After the lesson is taught, I encourage the students to expand on the concept through original role-play scenarios. They seem to benefit from this and I've found we have some awesome "Drama Queens and Kings!"
My class is less structured than most, so it affords students more freedom to be their true selves. Hopefully, someday they'll remember something that will be of benefit to them in a social setting. If not, perhaps they'll reflect back on some good experiences in a class that they enjoyed!
