Each portable costs nearly $250,000 and are paid for out of the district's annual operating fund. Portables are less secure than traditional classrooms. A section of Main Street in Childress is closed to traffic during the school day to allow students to safely walk to the portables.
Bond 2026 could allow the district to move away from using portables for student learning.

👥 The Childress ISD 2026 Bond is based on the recommendation of a 50-member Citizen Advisory Committee made up of parents, educators, business and community leaders.
Over two months, the committee met five times to study district facility assessments, financial data and public school finance before bringing its recommendation to the Board at its July 13 meeting.
