We have just been informed by the Childress Police Department that the loaded magazine found on the junior high playground this afternoon by one of our students belongs to a Childress police officer who was conducting canine training this morning at 4am before school. In that area of the practice field, the magazine accidentally fell from his service belt. The district wants to make the public aware that at no time were students or staff in danger.
A junior high student found a loaded magazine on the junior high practice field. It appears that the magazine goes to a pistol. No weapon was found. Upon finding the loaded magazine, the student immediately gave it to school personnel. Police were notified. School administration and police reviewed camera footage and were unable to determine who left it there or when it was left. The police are in possession of that magazine and are continuing to investigate the situation. Students and staff were not in danger during this time and are not in danger now. The district just wanted to make the public aware of this incident.
The city has notified us that the boil water notice has been lifted.
